Jonathan Van Ness is a hairdresser and television personality.

He is best known as the grooming expert on the Netflix series Queer Eye.

Early life

Van Ness was born in 1987 in Illinois.

He studied political science at the University of Arizona, before switching to train in hairstyling.

After graduating, he worked in Arizona for five years.

In 2009, he moved to Los Angeles and built his career as a hairstylist.

In 2013, Van Ness began filming Gay of Thrones – a comedic web-series that recapped Game of Thrones.

His break was being cast as the grooming expert on the reboot of the Queer Eye series. The show has established Van Ness as an international star.

Personal life

Van Ness identifies as non-binary.

Van Ness has talked publicly about living with HIV, and also his struggles with substance abuse and addiction.

In 2020, Van Ness married Mark Peacock.
