Ryan O’Connell is keeping busy. Building on the success of his series, Special, O’Connell has also got the green light for Accessible.


Written by O’Connell, Accessible will be 30-minute ‘traumedy’ that tells the story of Clare. Clare is 15 – an accident has left Clare with disabilities and she is being forced to attend a boarding school for others with disabilities.


Will we see more of Special?

Created by and starring O’Connell, Special was a hit comedy series for Netflix.


A second series has been commissioned. Production has been disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, but we should have more Special back on our screens soon.


Who is Ryan O’Connell?

Ryan O’Connell is a writer, actor, director, and comedian.


One of the breakthrough moments of his career was his 2015 memoir, I’m Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves.


The memoir explored O’Connell’s life as a gay man with cerebral palsy. O’Connell adapted the memoir into a series for Netlix, which was released in 2019.


Early life

O’Connell grew up in California.


He moved to New York City to study at The New School.


Career

Initially, O’Connell focused on his writing. He landed his first book deal by the age of 25.
